"It really doesn't matter if I'm wrong I'm right"

I know it's been dog years since the release (October 5 nationwide), but in case you were interested, here's a review/analysis of Across the Universe I wrote. A foreshadowing of the review, I saw it twice last week and am sure to see it again soon. Don't say I didn't warn you if you're cukoo for the Fab Four by the time you're done reading!

The Review ... and then some.

I hate to see this, but I thought it was really, REALLY bad. The songs felt extremely shoe-horned into a pretty uninteresting narrative.
The singers are pleasant enough, especially Jude...the clear exception being Prudence, whose version of "I wanna hold your hand" left me running for the hills.
The film really could have used some editing to tighten up the pace, especially of Eddie Izzard's "Mr Kite" routine. What purpose did it serve exactly? That they were tripping on acid? Wasn't that established already in their bus trip with Dr. Robert?

But, again, it's nice to hear Beatles' tunes, so there's a positive.

I'm with you on the choppyness. Narrative-wise, this was not the best (hence the details of the visuals)... Sturgess's vocals were *extremely* similar to Ewan MgGregor's... It took me a second to figure out who Prudence was singing to... As far as the "Mr. Kite" segment, it can't top Cirque du Soleil's "Love."
