Record Labels Going Down, Down.

Another one bites the dust! Am I the only one who is set off at the fact that record labels are dropping artists when they won't do a song and dance like a cat on a hot tin roof? I mean, come on. This is really sad. Who are they picking up when they drop someone? Fall Out Boy? Against Me? Ashley Tisdale? Whooooooo?

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go read some industry news. I'm not a huge fan of Annie Lennox, but I definitely think she's an icon in the music world, and to read her account of how she was treated by her label before they ditched her is highly disturbing.

Of course, she's not the only one this has happened to, and she won't be the last. You know the world is coming to an end when Oprah (who I really, really do NOT like, which is why I will probably be voting for Hillary instead of Oprah Obama) gets her own network and Annie Lennox doesn't want to sing anymore. Gah.

Oh, and I guess that little tidbit from Perez Hilton yesterday is actually true. Yay! Coachella, here we come...

The major labels are proving themselves ever more irrelavant by dropping artist like that.
I'm a huge Blue October fan, from back in the day, before they got signed to Universal. Of course they got dropped after one year, only to be picked up by the very same label 2 years later!

That's a horrible thought to think: selling yourself out is part of your job. If you do not look like a fool on this magazine cover or look like everyone does, you'll get canned.

Not all bands want to be heard on an iPod commercial (not that there's anything wrong with iPods, I have one) or on a movie trailer. Not cool... I feel like such a Debbie Downer right now I need a cookie, but OJ will have to suffice.

I want a donut.

The music industry just sucks right now. I'm glad I chose a profession that has nothing to do with it. At all.

Labels have sucked for a while. Between them sucking the blood out of bands and fans stealing their music on the side it has become increasingly hard for bands to make money. Sad but true :(

You're right, Leah. The industry's falling to pieces because it replaced music fans with accountants at the helms of their companies. Real music is not a product, but they've made all of their money in the last 10 years with product that looks like music (Britney, boy bands, High School Musical). In turn, they've tried to treat real music like a product instead of art. I just wrote a two-part bitchfest about ethics in the world of digital music over , if you're interested.
